Presentations

Introduction

Presenting information to audience is important to address what you really want to say, and if you do it bad often your audience will be left clue-less or bored. Therefore there is someguidelines that can maximise the for use in presentations.

What is available for use in Presentations?

There are now multiple documents that can be used for creating presentations. These documents can be found here: kde.org/kdeslides ,at the top of the page. These presentation documents conform to the Oxygen colour scheme.

What can be done at the moment?

With all presentations, you should always keep your information in concise form, this makes it easy for the audience to understand, along with the speaker's notes. It is suggestible to use no more than 5 lines per slide, to talk about one topic. Unless you plan to have a long presentation explaining a large source of information, keep your presentation as short as possible. Most impact towards the audience is at the beginning of the presentation.

Introduce your audience to the subject your talking about and explain the benefits or current problems in relation to the audience's needs. Therefore before you start going further into the presentation, they will understand you clearly in the later part of your presentation.

Adding Interest

The use of pictures can visually help the audience understand what you are talking about, and often explains it better than words itself. Try to use pictures, or diagrams to demonstrate your information clearly. Another great benefit of using pictures, it interests the audience throughout the whole presentation and ensures they don't loose a motive to get bored.

Keep the presentation formal, yet still appealing to the audience. So, don't use complex and irritating slide transitions or effects. These can become particularly annoying over time and often slow down the whole presentation when waiting for the information to appear.

Preparation is the Key

Prepration before the presentation is just as important as making the presentation - what benefit do you have from a presentation that won't display correctly on the projector used at a conference. Ensure that you check ahead with organisers to find the Projectors specifications, so that you can configure your presentation, or laptop accordingly. When you arrive, check your presentation to ensure that every piece of information is clearly readable from the back of the room. Therefore arrive with plenty of time before to alter any details.
